Advanced technologies and materials

Foundational technologies will be developed and will form the basis of any future CFM engine.
carbon fiber
carbon fiber

Composite fan blade technology

Since the introduction of carbon fiber composites with the GE90 more than 25 years ago, our companies have continued to build field experience with composite materials, reaching more than 275 million flight hours, including 70 million flight hours with the LEAP.

fuel reduction 1

100% alternative fuels capability

Through the RISE program, CFM is advancing engine technologies for compatibility with alternative fuels like Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). SAF can reduce fuel lifecycle emissions up to 80%.

hybrid

Hybrid electric systems

The integration of gas-powered turbines and electrical-powered motors is one of several key enabling technologies being matured to meet aviation industry goals to lower carbon emissions from air transport. With the RISE Program, CFM could be the first company to introduce hybrid electric in the single-aisle segment.
